Description : Thomas Smillie was the Smithsonian first photographer and curator of photography, began his career at the College in the 1870s. In 1913 he mounted an exhibition on the history of photography at the Art and Industries Building Smithsonian, many remarkable progress in the field show that he feared had been forgotten or ignored.
